Our Story

Walk the Bridge to Hope

My Journey from a Shelter to Homeownership

Hi, I'm Carole Frazier, founder of Bridge to Hope Living.

When you look at me today, you see a business owner, a homeowner, and someone who is deeply passionate about helping others. But I want you to know that I haven't always been on this side of the door. I know exactly what it feels like to wonder where you're going to sleep tonight, to feel the weight of uncertainty, and to stare at a future that looks completely blank.

I've always been a naturally resourceful person. Give me a goal, and I will find a way to map out a plan to reach it. Yet, even with all the determination in the world, life can take unexpected turns. As a young adult, I made one bad decision, the kind of mistake anyone could make, and found myself completely homeless.

And I want to be incredibly clear about something: substance abuse was never a factor in my story. I didn't lose my housing to addiction. I lost it to a harsh gap between my income and the cost of living, and a lack of a safety net.

The Reality of the Working Homeless

Although I had a job and was working hard every day, I simply could not afford rent. It is an exhausting, heartbreaking feeling to work a full day, punch the clock, and still not have a key to your own front door. With no family members who had the space or means to take me in, I had to pack up what little I had and move into a women's shelter.

Walking through those doors for the first time is terrifying. The stigma makes you feel small. But the moment I stepped inside, the atmosphere shifted. The shelter was clean, and the wonderful staff greeted me with warmth, dignity, and genuine humanity.

“Your current situation is temporary. It is a chapter in your book, not the whole story.”

I shared a room with another woman who was fighting her own battles. Together, we navigated the system. The wonderful staff didn't look down on me; they handed me tools. I poured myself into learning about the different programs available, finding the exact resources that fit my specific needs. They gave me the guidance and the breathing room I needed to rebuild my foundation.

Crossing the Bridge to Success

Because I stayed focused, utilized the tools around me, and refused to give up, I was able to get back on my feet and secure a very nice place of my own. Once I had that stability, there was no stopping me. I went back to school, I budgeted, I saved every penny I could, and eventually, I bought my very first home. I haven't looked back since.

I didn't get here entirely alone. The sheer kindness, dedication, and support of the shelter workers and community programs truly helped me succeed. They were the bridge when I was stuck on the other side.

Why I Started Bridge to Hope

I didn't start Bridge to Hope Living Program just to run a business. I started it to give back to a community of people who are too often frowned upon, misjudged, and ignored by society. People look at homelessness and make assumptions, but I know the truth: you are a human being who just needs support, encouragement, resources, and stability to restart your life.

I am living, breathing proof that where you are right now is not where you are destined to stay. This hardship is temporary.

If you are tired, if you are struggling, let my story be your map. Hold your head up, look forward, and join me.
